Bicycle Racing is Called Suffering for a Reason

Think about pushing yourself for 3 to 6 hours through blazing heat and humidity, freezing rain, long leg-cramping climbs up a mountain, or against 20 to 30 mph headwinds – peddling at least 90 revolutions a minute with no breaks, no timeouts, nothing but constant effort. And you have to do it until the end of the cycling race.

It hurts more than any other sport. It’s painful. It can only be described as suffering.

Why do we do it? What would cause you to do it?
